Twickenham Yacht Club Open Day - Sunday 5 July 2026 - 11am - 3pm

Have you ever walked past Twickenham Yacht Club and wondered what goes on behind the gates? Discover one of Twickenham's hidden gems and experience life on the River Thames at our Open Day.

Whether you've always wanted to try sailing, are curious about paddleboarding, or sailed in the past and would like to get back involved, we'd love to show you what membership at TYC is all about.

Twickenham Yacht Club is a friendly, volunteer-run, not-for-profit sailing club on one of the most beautiful stretches of the River Thames. Our members come from all backgrounds, but they share a love of being on and around the water and being part of a vibrant riverside community.

Membership starts from just £160 per year.

Complimentary Taster Sessions

Throughout the day we'll be offering complimentary taster sessions in dinghy sailing and stand-up paddleboarding.

Whether you're stepping onto a boat or board for the first time, returning to a sport you haven't done for years, or simply curious to see what it's all about, our experienced instructors and members will help you get afloat in a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment.

No experience is necessary and all equipment will be provided. For paddleboarding, participants must be aged 14 or over and able to swim. For sailing, children must be aged 5 or over and accompanied by an adult.

Who Is The Open Day For?

Our Open Day is designed for people who are interested in joining the club, getting involved in watersports and becoming part of our riverside community.

If that sounds like you, we'd love to meet you.

You don't need to own a boat or paddleboard. Members can hire club boats and paddleboards from as little as £6 per session. If you do own your own craft, we also offer boat and board storage and moorings.

Think River Sailing Isn't As Exciting As The Coast? Think Again!

Many sailors are surprised by just how rewarding and challenging sailing on the tidal Thames can be. Wind shifts, changing river flow, tight tactical decisions and close racing make Twickenham one of the most engaging places to learn and develop your sailing.

There's an old saying that if you can sail at Twickenham, you can sail anywhere.

More Than Just Sailing and Paddleboarding

Membership at TYC is about much more than getting on the water.

Alongside sailing and paddleboarding, members enjoy social events, volunteering opportunities, cruising, yachting trips, training courses, maintenance days and plenty of time relaxing in our riverside clubhouse and bar.

As a volunteer-run club, members help shape and support everything we do. Whether on the water, behind the bar, helping at events or maintaining facilities, being part of TYC means being part of something bigger than simply taking part in an activity.

Come for the River. Stay for the Community.

What To Wear

If you plan to sail or paddleboard, please dress for the weather and the possibility of getting wet - this is a watersports club after all.

We recommend:

Comfortable clothing suitable for the conditions
Footwear that you don't mind getting wet
A waterproof or windproof layer if it's cool or breezy
Sun cream and a hat if it's sunny

Buoyancy aids will be provided. You may also wish to bring a towel and a change of clothes. Showers and changing facilities are available at the club.

Refreshments

Tea, coffee and homemade baked goods will be available to purchase throughout the day, and our reasonably priced riverside bar will be open upstairs. Even if you're not planning to get on the water, you're welcome to come along, meet members, explore the club and find out more about what we do.
