RYA CEVNI Test
Add the Inland Waterways Endorsement to Your ICC
Planning to cruise Europe's canals, rivers or inland waterways? You'll need an International Certificate of Competence (ICC) with a CEVNI endorsement.
CEVNI (Code Européen des Voies de la Navigation Intérieure) is the standard set of navigation rules used on inland waterways across much of mainland Europe.
Passing the CEVNI test demonstrates that you understand the signs, signals and regulations you'll encounter when cruising abroad.
First you need the RYA Powerboat Level 2 - this qualification allows you to apply for an ICC. Passing the CEVNI test enables you to apply for the Inland Waters validation.
How it Works
The CEVNI qualification is based on self-study using the RYA European Waterways Regulations (G17) handbook.
Once you're ready, we can arrange your official RYA CEVNI assessment. The in-person test is completed at a time that suits you and, on successful completion, enables you to apply for the Inland Waterways endorsement on your ICC.
Is This Course for Me?
The CEVNI test is ideal if you are:

Planning to charter a boat on European canals or rivers

Taking your own boat to mainland Europe

Applying for an ICC with an Inland Waterways endorsement

Already holds, or intends to apply for, an International Certificate of Competence (ICC).
If you don't need an ICC, there's generally no reason to take the CEVNI test.
Preparing for the Test
Before booking your assessment, we recommend purchasing and carefully studying:

RYA European Waterways Regulations (G17) – the official RYA guide to European inland waterway regulations.

RYA CEVNI Signs & Symbols Flip Cards (FC02) – an excellent study aid covering the signs and symbols you'll be tested on.
The examination primarily assesses your knowledge of the European inland waterway signs, signals and regulations contained within these resources.
Taking the Test at TYC
We offer the official RYA CEVNI examination in person.
The assessment takes approximately 20 minutes to complete and is conducted under the supervision of an approved RYA examiner.
The test costs £25 per person. Candidates are responsible for purchasing their own study materials.
Unlike some providers, we do not offer an online version of the CEVNI test.
