RYA First Aid Course
Essential first aid skills for anyone who spends time on the water.
When an accident happens afloat, help may not be immediately available.
The RYA First Aid Course gives you the practical knowledge and confidence to respond to a medical emergency, with first aid taught specifically from a boating perspective.
Delivered at Twickenham Yacht Club, our RYA Recognised Training Centre on the River Thames in south-west London, this one-day classroom course is suitable for sailors, powerboaters, paddleboarders, cruising crews and anyone who spends time on or around the water.
No previous first aid experience is required.

You'll cover the essential first aid skills you would expect from a first aid course, together with situations and challenges that are particularly relevant when you're afloat.
Topics include:
-
CPR and the use of an AED, including the drowning protocol
-
The recovery position, including adapting it for confined spaces
-
Unconscious casualties
-
Bleeding, wounds, shock and head injuries
-
Choking and breathing difficulties
-
Cold water shock and hypothermia
-
Seasickness and dehydration
-
Burns, fractures, seizures and other common medical emergencies
-
Choosing and using suitable first aid equipment for your boat
-
Requesting medical advice or assistance by marine VHF radio
-
Preparing for the evacuation of a casualty afloat
The course is practical, accessible and designed to give you skills you could genuinely use in an emergency.
