⏱ Course Format​

  • Duration: 2 consecutive days

  • Time: 09:30 – 17:30 (Clubhouse open from 09:20)

  • Season: April – October

  • Group size: 2-3 students per instructor

RYA Powerboat Level 2 (PB2) Course 

Learn to drive a powerboat on the River Thames in just two days

Learn to handle a powerboat with confidence - whether you’re completely new or looking to sharpen your skills. Gain a qualification that's recognised worldwide. 

 

On successful completion, you’ll receive the RYA Powerboat Level 2 certificate.  This allows you to apply for an International Certificate of Competence (ICC) - widely accepted when hiring boats in Europe and beyond.

✅ Small groups (2-3 per instructor)

✅ Train on London’s tidal Thames

​Powerboat Level 2 includes Level 1 - no prior course required.

🌊 Build Confidence on the Water

This practical, hands-on course is designed to get you comfortable at the helm quickly.  It’s ideal if you want to:

 

  • learn the fundamentals of powerboating

  • improve your handling and awareness

  • prepare to hire a boat abroad

  • enjoy inland river cruising

  • operate a safety or support boat

 

⚓ What You’ll Learn

  • Close-quarters manoeuvring

  • Man overboard recovery

  • Introduction to planing

  • Basic navigation and buoyage

  • Collision regulations (COLREGs)

  • Safe operation on rivers, harbours and tidal waters

Twickenham Yacht Club offers a unique training environment on the tidal River Thames - helping you develop real-world boat handling skills.

 

  • Around two-thirds of the course is on the water

  • Experience tidal conditions and river navigation

  • Maximum 3 students per instructor for focused learning

Minimum age at this centre: 18 years

Non-members become Temporary Members of Twickenham Yacht Club for the duration of the course
