Paddleboarding

Stand-Up Paddleboarding (SUP) is a great way to explore our beautiful stretch of the River Thames. Although tidal, Richmond Lock creates a calmer environment around Twickenham Yacht Club, making it an ideal place to learn to paddleboard or build confidence on the water.

Join TYC to access SUP facilities, improve your skills and meet a friendly community of fellow river enthusiasts through social paddles and Open Improver Sessions.

No racing, no pressure, and no previous experience needed.

Open Improver Sessions (All Welcome)

Open Improver Sessions can be booked in advance by both members and non-members. These sessions are ideal if you are new to paddleboarding, building confidence on the river, or looking to improve your skills before joining a social paddle.

It’s a relaxed and supportive way to spend more time on the water and get to know the river.

Board Hire & Storage (TYC Members Only)

You don’t need to own a paddleboard - TYC has six SUP boards available for members to hire. A small hire fee helps cover maintenance and running costs. Boards can be booked per member in 3-hour slots.

Club board hire is available to members only. Guests and non-members are not permitted to hire club boards.

Storage is available for members with their own paddleboard, within easy reach of the slipway.

Social Paddles (TYC Members Only)

Member social paddles are organised each week through a WhatsApp group. Depending on river and weather conditions, these might include an early morning paddle to Teddington for coffee or an evening paddle to Richmond before returning to the club for a drink and catch-up.

If you don't have your own board, you can book a club board.

River Safety

Our Tide Information page provides information to help plan a river paddle.

Before going on the water, TYC recommends that members check temperature; wind direction and strength; river conditions (current ebb flow rate / boards); current direction of flow at TYC; previous / next tide times and heights; and expected changes to these during your paddle.

Please note booking and using club boards is strictly for members only.

Guests are not permitted to use club boards.

If a non-member books a board, you will not be eligible for refund or access to the boards.
