On the October weekend of the clocks changing, eleven Twickenham Yacht Club sailors congregated at Hamble Point Marina on Friday evening for the annual TYC Solent Weekend. Fandango, a Maxi 1100, had sailed with her crew from Southsea earlier in the day to meet up with the crew of Loxley B, a Sun Odyssey 37.
On Saturday, a review of the weather forecast changed destination plans from Yarmouth on the Isle of Wight to Gosport Marina. After sailing in Southampton Water and around Palmerston Forts, both yachts headed towards Portsmouth for the evening’s berthing. After showering and having an aperitif onboard, the crews made their way to a local pub. After an enjoyable meal, the crew of Loxley B hosted Fandango’s, where further tales of the day were exchanged as the wine continued to flow!
On Sunday, both yachts headed to their home ports, mainsails reefed as the predicted gales arrived. After berthing up for the last time, cleaning down the boats and having a cup of tea, the crews departed tired but happy after a fun if rather windy weekend of sailing on the Solent. More to come in 2019!!
