TYC is proud to sponsor a variety of competitive handicap sailing races every evening of the week, beginning Monday 13 June, in support of the RNLI. Each evening’s results adjusts the following evening's start times. A first receives up to a 3-minute handicap while last a 3-minute advantage. By the end of the week, each boat could be starting at a different time due to accumulated handicap changes. The week progresses with having an additional course marker added per evening, creating an ever-increasing course complexity. A small entry fee of £10 is donated to the RNLI.
Racing begins at 7:30pm, followed by drinks in the Clubhouse bar, open until 11pm. Even if not racing, come by the Club and watch the action! The week will end on Friday 17 June with prize-giving and Lifeboat Week Party (bring your own dish!).
RNLI lifeboats have been operating on the River Thames since 2002 from lifeboat stations at Chiswick, Gravesend, Teddington and Tower Bridge. Having the RNLI on the river is important to TYC sailors as the river’s cold temperature, rapid pace and changing tides can make it incredibly dangerous. Speed is of the utmost importance and anyone in the water must be reached within minutes, especially given the constant heavy traffic from passing watercraft of every kind. Your donations help keep this valuable service afloat!
